Sneak Peek for Sunday, February 19!
Below are excerpts from our Pastor
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:43-45
This Sunday we continue to focus on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. The gospel for this week instructs us to love our enemies and pray for them. As with other moral teachings of Jesus, this is both clear in meaning and difficult to follow. Our natural human response to pain and suffering from another person is to react and fight back. If insulted, we insult; if hurt, we hurt back; etc. Jesus calls us to a life of love and a path of non-violent resistance. We cannot repay evil with evil, for only love can transcend hate. Violence, in its many forms, is always against God's will. We are called to be children of God, bring light and love into the world. Join us Sunday as we unpack this important text and wrestle with what it means for our lives today.
